Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. The human body cannot produce or store vitamin C. Therefore, it’s essential to consume it regularly in sufficient amounts. Vitamin C rapidly breaks down when exposed to heat, water and air. So raw fruits and vegetables are better sources than cooked ones. The recommended daily intake (RDI) for vitamin C is 90 mg for men and 75 mg for women (for a healthy adult). 85mg during pregnancy and 120mg during lactation. Smokers needs to consume an additional 35 mg per day, as tobacco reduces the absorption of vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, necessary for healthy skin, collagen synthesis, immune functions, for healing of wounds, maintain bones & absorption of iron.
